new tradition: activated!

while we were waiting on Avett to finish speech therapy, Scout and I went by @hobbylobby to check out all the fun seasonal stuff. we started in Halloween, moved through Thanksgiving, and ended with the piece de resistance: CHRISTMAS! she was so deliberate and intentional, taking time to move through each aisle and tell me what she liked most. I let her pick something out for her room that we’d come back and get when it’s time to decorate.

I know I say it at every age, but this is my favorite version of Scout so far. sure, I ache a little thinking about her tiny girl days, but seeing her personality develop and how she’s turning into a real human? it’s the coolest thing to watch. she’s such an incredible little person. every day, I’m thankful to be her mom ❤️

confession? rarely do I ever feel total clarity with decision making. between executive dysfunction and crippling perfectionism, even *getting* to the decision is a chore; but feeling confident in it? not questioning it, not second guessing it into the grave?

NOPE. AIN’T ME.

recently, though, I actually had a moment. we thought we were going to move Scout from the preschool she’s been in to a different one for her last year pre-kindergarten. we registered her and gave notice at her current school. and something kept *nagging* at me. I figured it was me questioning myself (see above) and tried to brush it off. but it lingered.

do any of y’all follow @caseyleighwiegand? if you don’t, you should. she has four kids, and two are homeschooled, one is in private school, and one is in public school. they all simply need different things. and recently she was talking about how you know what is best for your kids. make the decision.

and I thought that meant to brush the doubt aside and stick with my plan.

but at the eleventh hour, it hit me HARD. not that I needed to power through, but that I needed to step back. trusting my instinct meant to not ignore the fear. God was giving me the sign I asked for (via Casey’s Instagram stories), but I was interpreting it backward (shockerrrrr).

I talked to Dale and he 100% supported whatever I thought we should do (bless him) and we decided to keep her where she was. both schools were great, and she would have thrived at either. but I ~felt in my bones~ that she needed to stay where she was. so we withdrew her from the new school and sent the “lol jk see ya Monday” email to her current school 😂 and I didn’t question myself AT ALL 💥

and alllllll of this over a preschool? yep 😂 but it made me feel so much more confident as a mother that I could pull the trigger and not look back. ✨finally✨

anyway. if you are never satisfied with your choices, just know that occasionally, you get something right without any doubt ❤️
